  1. Get a good night’s sleep. One of the causes of neck pain is we do not get a good night’s sleep. Whether it is due to bad sleeping posture or the bed itself, sleep problems increase the risk of body aches.

It is also good to try sleeping on a firm or orthopedic mattress with a pillow that supports your neck. There are special neck pillows found in retail stores that can help relieve your pain. Also, do not sleep with too many pillows under your head. This can stifle your neck’s range of motion and muscles.

  1. Practice good posture. Every ache or pain that we experience always comes from one thing: bad posture. As simple as not straightening our back often can lead to neck pain. Thus, it is important to practice good posture or, at least, move around.

It may be difficult to reverse bad posture. But, if you get up and move around often enough, you can avoid having a stiff neck. You must not stay in one position for too long because this can stiffen the muscles, which leads to body pain.

Another way to relieve neck pain is to know your limits. Do not lift heavy objects around if your body is not used to it. It is better to ask for help than to experience extreme neck pain.

  1. Make some ergonomic adjustments. Despite proper ergonomics being right, some people still do not believe in it. If you want to relieve your neck pain, you must make some ergonomic adjustments in your home or office. Below are some that you can do at home or office:

  • Use a Hands-Free Function on Your Phone
  • Wear a Headset
  • Position Your Tablet at a 45-degree Angle on a Pillow
  • Get a Desk Chair That Reaches Up Your Head
  1. Apply a hot or cold compress, depending on the pain. At the early stages of pain, use ice on the affected area for the first 48 to 72 hours. Afterward, you can use heat using a compress, heating pad, or hot shower. The heat will help decrease the swelling, thus reducing the pain.
  2. Stretch and exercise. The reason neck pain happens is because of stiff muscles caused by not moving around much. Thus, you should consider doing some stretches and regular exercises. This helps strengthen the neck, shoulder, and upper back muscles. It can also help speed up the neck’s recovery.
